El Niño Awakens: Rain and Thunder May Be Coming Our Way This Weekend

Could it be El Niño?

SAN DIEGO/TIJUANA - The weather forecasts for this week and the next indicate that there will be a drop in temperatures. It'll finally feel like the season that we're supposed to be in.

We are currently feeling said drop today with current temperatures at 66 ºF, it'll stay like this for the rest of the week with Sunday being the coldest with a high of 64 ºF and a 60% chance of rain.

These showers will increase on Monday with an 80% chance, we might even see some thunder and strong winds.

Finally, some much needed rainfall and fresh air after the heatwaves and pesky Santa Ana winds that we've had recently.

Here's the forecast for the next 10 days:

Is El Niño back?

According to a video published by NBC 7 San Diego, El Niño is currently active, but because of a "high pressure bubble", all of the storms that come our way are being driven north.

Jodi Kodesh explains how this condition is changing, which will result in rainfall this weekend. She also adds that El Niño doesn't not necessarily equal storms but that we will probably be seeing rain with more frequency.
