Election 2016: PAN Candidate is Tijuana's Virtual Mayor-Elect

The preliminary count was over a little before 1 p.m.

With 23.1% of the total votes in his favour, the National Action Party (PAN) candidate Juan Manuel Gastélum is the winner of the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP).

Gastélum maintained a 1% advantage over René Mendivil, candidate for the coalition between the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Labor Party (PT), Mexico’s Green Ecologist Party (PVEM), and the New Alliance Party (PNA).

Coming in second after Mendivil by only a fraction, gathering 22.13% of the total votes, is Social Encounter Party’s (PES) candidate Julián Leyzaola.

Gastélum has started celebrating this result, while the other candidates have declined to comment on the matter so far.
