Tijuana native joins NFL team for 2021 season

The 24-year-old offensive lineman will be part of the San Diego 49ers team for the 2021 season.

As part of the International Player Pathway Program of the National Football League (NFL), Tijuana native Alfredo Gutiérrez will join the San Francisco 49ers for the 2021 season.

This program was instituted in 2017 and aims to provide international athletes the opportunity to compete at the NFL level, improve their skills and ultimately earn a spot in some NFL lineup.

The Tijuana native not only managed to be one of four foreigners selected from this year's edition of the IPP, but was assigned to the best football league after his compatriot Isaac Alarcón, who was signed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2020.

At 24 years of age, the offensive lineman will be part of this team with a height of 2.08 meters and a weight of 150.5 kilograms. It is worth mentioning that the young athlete participated in the
NFL Pro Day at the University of Florida, where he stood out for running 40 yards in 4.65 seconds, achieving a static long jump of 2.6 meters and completing 20 repetitions of bench press with 102 kilograms.

Gutierrez is a former player for Borregos of Tecnológico de Monterrey, a team with which he was a champion in 2019.

"The International Player Pathway program offers athletes a viable route to the NFL and an opportunity to further develop their skills," said Damani Leech, NFL director of international operations. "We are excited to welcome the class of 2021 to the NFL and continue to grow the game globally."
