The new Otay Garita connector is now open, providing easier access to Chula Vista

The road distributor will connect freeways 905, 125, and 11

On Thursday, December 16, the United States Consulate General in Tijuana, led by Consul Tom Reott, declared a significant milestone in the connectivity of the Garita de Otay, which would make it easier to reach particular regions.

According to reports, the highway distributor that will link the 905, 125, and 11 freeways was officially opened, providing an improved connection for people traveling between Chula Vista and San Diego and the Otay Mesa area. This section of the eventual Otay II gatehouse keeps that in mind.

"This project, spearheaded by SANDAG and CALTRANS, is a critical piece of infrastructure and mobility for the future Otay II gatehouse, which is projected to spur economic growth and improve binational commerce in the CaliBaja area," they said on their official Facebook page.

The Garita Otay II will be finished by September 2024; the Consul of Mexico, Carlos González Gutiérrez, recently announced that the US portion is almost complete, with only the Mexican side remaining, so the process is being accelerated for the opening to happen sooner than expected.

According to the authorities, this checkpoint is expected to be one of the most contemporary in the world since it will be clever, inventive, and high-tech and might serve as a model for other frontiers.
