Baja Window to the South has an endless number of guests who promote all of the attractions that Baja California has to offer. To represent a rarely heard artistic realm, Enrique Chiu was present. He is an artist from Guadalajara, although adopted by Tijuana, who is the creator of the iconic “Brotherhood Mural” (Mural de la Hermandad) located at the border wall of Playas de Tijuana.

Chiu, along with thousands of collaborators, created positive messages on the border wall, which are dedicated to people crossing the border, those who are looking for the “American dream”, and even those who had to separate from their families in search of a better life or for migratory issues. All of this teamwork ended with this mural, which is visited by several tourists and has been venue for a lot of border events and meetings between families of both sides.

Since 2015, this project has managed to paint along different sizes and sections of the border wall located between the US and Mexico. Each section has a specific message, for example, the artwork created last year was inspired by the medical staff fighting on the frontlines against the Covid-19 virus.

Enrique has been painting professionally for more than 22 years and in 18 years he has painted several murals that amount to 500 in total. It should be noted that these are created just not in Mexico but also in Paris, Guatemala, Berlin, the US, among others.

Currently, Chiu is looking to break the Guinness World Record of the longest mural in the world which he had already achieved. However, due to migratory issues, parts of the mural were removed when the migrant caravan arrived, and he wishes to complete it again and obtain the record officially.

2022 will be a year full of different activities for Enrique who will travel to different parts of the world to present his murals and exhibitions, elevating the art of Mexico and Baja California worldwide.
