Sometimes we forget about the Baja Californian talent that exists iacross all sectors, not only gastronomy, culture, or business, but also art and, specifically, music, and Baja Window to the South is here to help you discover these people.

One of these artists is Gerardo Espericueta, accordionist of the worldwide renowned group Nortec: Bostich + Fussible. Besides playing the accordion, Gerardo is also a singer and producer. Though he studied music with different instruments, the accordion has become his basic instrument since he fell in love with the language he can express with it.

Something interesting to note is that this talented musician and producer has created several musical pieces. For example, he created the Baja Window to the South jingle which listeners and viewers can appreciate at the beginning and ending of each show.

Espericueta added that since the accordion arrived in Mexico through the northern borders, it began to mix with other instruments such as the bajo sexto to create what we now know as norteño music, which has adapted to become a traditional Mexican rhythm like mariachi.

Gerardo was discovered by Nortec when Ramón Amezcua, member of the band, asked him to record for a song for one of their albums. After listening to him, they asked him to be a part of the band, but because of his studies, Espercieuta was unable at that moment. Years later, he joined the group officially in one of their world tours, debuting in 2013 during their tour in Japan.
