Intense adobada meat by El Pirul Asadero delights in Mexicali

The carne asada also impressed due to its great flavor

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Mexicali, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to El Pirul Asadero located at Urbano Vázquez 290, González Ortega. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and an al pastor taco, both priced at $1.6 dollars ($33 pesos).

Al Pastor Taco

The first taco that Chef Danny tried has adobada meat cut up in thin slices, onion, coriander, sauce, and is served on a packaged flour tortilla. The first thing that impressed Danny was the salsa which, though it had a good flavor, was too spicy.

The meat’s red color was a reflection of the intense taste the adobo had which was quite present from the first bite. The texture was also a key factor here since fried pieces were taken directly from the stick. The flour tortilla, however, though it was a good addition creating an interesting combination was not something that Chef Danny completely liked. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.0.

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled meat), pico de gallo, watery guacamole, and is served on a packaged flour tortilla that was quite big. The meat pieces were cut in big cubes and when he tasted them, Danny claimed that one cannot taste the classic marinated flavor (orange, spices, etc.), but instead just meat with salt which makes the meat pop out as it was not hidden between all the condiments.

The flour tortilla did not really convince our host. On the other hand, before he tried the taco, Chef Danny did not know if the taco had a green sauce or guacamole. When he took his first bite, he realized that it was watery guacamole. He pointed out that in Mexicali guacamole isn’t usually served on tacos, instead there is a bar with different sauces and one can find green sauces with or without chili and watery guacamole. Danny decided to add some lime juice which helped the flavors stand out. This taco gets a rating of 7.9.
