San Diego trolleys and buses announce Free Ride Day

Free Ride Day will take place on October

Good news for all public transportation riders in San Diego: you will be able to enjoy free rides for an entire day on all trolley and bus routes. This will occur on Free Ride Day.

This new celebration will take place on October 5, 2022, and will include trolleys, COASTER, SPRINTER, and fixed-route buses. You won’t need a PRONTO card, or any ticket or document to take these rides.

Schedules and working hours will continue operating regularly. Free Ride Day is being held in conjunction with California’s Clean Air Day whose goal is to reduce emissions and improve air quality.

It should be noted that Free Ride Day has been held since 2018. According to North County Bus & Train Service (NCTD) Board Chair, Jewel Edson, these free rides are offered in hopes that people leave their cars at home and try out public transportation.

"We're fortunate in our region to have public transit systems that access so much of the county," she shared and claimed that one of the goals is for passengers and riders to see how much public transportation can benefit them.
