Sockers beat their border rival Tijuana for second time

They play each other enough times during the regular season to make it a competitive series

It is still considered a rivalry. They play each other enough times during the regular season to make it a competitive series.

But there is one team leading the battle of the border.

The San Diego Sockers beat the Tijuana Revolución for the second time this season with a 6-3 win Saturday at Estadio Furati in Tijuana.

Dan Antoniuk scored two goals and added an assist for San Diego (8-2 PASL-Pro).

Antoniuk scored both goals on the power play, the first giving San Diego a 2-1 lead in the first quarter, and the second opening up a 4-2 advantage in the fourth.

Diego Rovira added his 10th and 11th goals of the year while Kraig Chiles had his team-leading 19th score of the season.

Anthony Medina also had a goal and an assist for the Sockers.

Goalkeeper Riley Swift allowed a season-low three goals to improve his record to 7-2 on the season.

Tijuana (5-3) had goals from Miguel Marino, Oliver Jimenez and Guillermo Lucero.

The Sockers had previously beat Tijuana on the road Dec. 11.

Both teams are scheduled to meet again two more times this season with both matches at the Del Mar Arena. They won’t have to wait long to see each other.

The Sockers host Tijuana Jan. 29 then again Feb. 12.

But before taking on its border rivals, San Diego next travels to Las Vegas on Friday for a U.S. Open Cup Western semifinal against the Las Vegas Knights, before returning home.
