The community of Big Bear in California has suffered tough consequences due to the historic snowfalls from a few days ago, which left inhabitants without basic supplies such as fuel; meanwhile most store shelves are empty.

Due to this, Big Bear mayor, Randall Putz, encouraged people not to visit Big Bear yet, warning not only of the dangers of the road but the lack of entertaining activities, as many places are closed until they can recover.

In an interview with ABC News, he stated that there’s only one route that is still open which is being used to deliver essential supplies to the community. In addition, he tried to persuade people not to go up the mountain as, if an accident occurs, the road may be closed for days.

Putz added:

Every storm is different and has its own nuance to it. This one snowed really hard and it, frankly, overwhelmed our infrastructure. So, if you were to come up, you're not going to be able to play in the snow. You're not going to be able to do a lot of different things. We're still digging out and we need people's patience as we finish that work. And it's real helpful when people don't get in the way of that essential work.

Despite these warnings by authorities, many people are still visiting the area in order to ski, while vehicles are blocking the road.

Since the snowstorm began, there has been more than one foot of snow in the most elevated areas of Interstate 5 and even 7 feet in Big Bear. According to some local testimonials, a snowfall like this hadn’t occurred since 2017.

The landscape seems like it would become warmer by next week’s Saturday, as temperatures will reach 10°C (50°F). Currently, inhabitants are living with maximum temperatures of 4°C (39°F) and with minimum temperatures of -5°C (23°F).
