The Sport Fishing Baja California Cup begins this weekend in San Felipe

Like in all previous editions, $250,000 pesos will be awarded in cash and sport fishing equipment

The Sport Fishing Baja California Cup will begin on the weekend of June 23 to June 25 in San Felipe, with the participation of national and southern US competitors.

The head of the Secretariat of Fishing and Aquaculture (SEPESCA BC), Alma Rosa García Juárez highlighted that this championship is being carried out in cooperation with the State Association of Fishing Clubs of Baja California, which is presided by Julio Meza Virgilio.

Regarding the activities at the port, she said an important reactivation of the economy is expected for the region due to the number of services and commercial activities that will benefit the community.

As it is customary, the inauguration ceremony and the meeting of the captains will occur in the San Felipe pier at sunrise on Saturday, where the teams will sail off looking for the biggest fish.

García Juárez thanked the support offered by the Municipal Administration of San Felipe, headed by José Luis Dagnino López, as well as the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fishing (CONAPESCA), Port Captaincy, the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the tournament’s sponsors.

In order promote family gatherings, gender inclusivity, and develop sport spirit and respect for nature in new generations, there will be an option for teams to be made up of mixed members, boys and girls from ages 8 to 14, and adults. There will also be a special prize for catch and release fishing.

As the prizes are per team, 1st to 5th places will be awarded $5,000 pesos in cash which will be given to both women and minors. If these first places have no minors or women, the award will be given to the best ranked team that has women or children. In addition, those who show the greatest number of catch and release videos will be awarded $10,000 pesos.

Prizes in cash and equipment are guaranteed in each venue totaling more than $250,000 pesos, as well as what is collected in the jackpot, which will be given to the winners among all the participants who registered.

The next stop of the Baja California Cup will be at Bahía de los Ángeles on July 21 and 22; then it will be in Ensenada on August 25 and 26; and the finals will be in San Quintin on September 22 and 23.
