Playas de Rosarito will host an international sports event! This is the 2023 Abierto Mexicano de Surf Baja California, a competition where the best surfers in the world will compete on September 16 and September 17.

The Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of Baja California (INDE BC), in coordination with the State Association of Surf, have opened registrations; they expect at least 100 participants to take part in this event at the Playas de Rosarito pier.

José Antonio Rodríguez Otáñez, President of the Surfing Association of Baja California, said:

We already have a lot of surfers from the United States, Germany, Brazil, and many other places. This is why we expect this event to be a great competition, where the goal is to promote sports and improve the surfing quality of Baja Californian athletes by having them compete with international, high-performance athletes.

Rosarito: the cradle of surf in Mexico

Playas de Rosarito has been recognized as the cradle of surf in Mexico due to its impressive beaches and waves which make it perfect for this sport. One can take their surfboard and enjoy the northern waves the 365 days of the year, as the weather conditions of Baja Californian beaches make waves optimal for surfing.

Here, some of the best schools dedicated exclusively to surfing, as well as associations for beginners and experts, have been established.

Abierto Mexicano Surf, besides being the venue of a sports event, will also allow the city to show off that it can be venue for all kinds of sporting events, and an attractive tourism spot as it has several restaurants, hotels, and a great variety of recreational activities.
