Mayor Montserrat Caballero supervises sinkhole repairs at Vía Rápida Poniente

Repairs will begin this week and they will last around 11 days

After a sinkhole occurred on the slow lane of Vía Rápida Poniente, mayor Montserrat Caballero visited this road in order to supervise its repair work; around 96,000 vehicles travel through this road every day.

Since yesterday, Monday, March 18, staff from the Municipal Administration of Tijuana closed part of the slow lane, at the level of newspaper Frontera, in order to repair a drainage pipe that was affected by vandalism acts in the area.

"Vandalism continues to affect us and due to the constant work that has been carried out at Vía Rápida, we were able to detect a sinkhole. We are hurrying to repair it in a maximum of 11 days," the mayor claimed.

The Secretary of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA), Enrique Bautista Corona, explained that they will be working on 60 lineal meters, replacing collapsed pipes through a hydraulic concrete caisson.

"We are only working on Vía Lenta, so that we can work on this side in a safe manner, without affecting traffic flow through Vía Rápida," the official stated.

The Municipal Administration reminded the population that, as alternate routes, Calle Villahermosa and Prolongación Paseo de los Héroes have been enabled so that they can merge back into Vía Rápida at the level of Avenida Ermita Norte.

Besides these repairs, the Municipal Government is working on repairing and installing LED-technology lights in Colonia Anexa 20 de Noviembre.

The head of STDUA explained that they are installing 121 public lights in this area of the city, strengthening places that need it the most at the request of citizens.

During a livestream that took place in Callejón Aida Baltazar, mayor Montserrat Caballero asked people to report if there are any faults or if there are any lights lacking in their neighborhoods so that this can be resolved as soon as possible.
