Project to reopen San Diego-Tijuana Puerto México makes progress

The old entrance from San Diego to Tijuana could be reopened and this could prevent the traffic that occurs in the afternoons

It is no secret that crossing from San Diego to Tijuana in the afternoons every week has become an annoyance. Thousands of people who work in the United States have to come back from their jobs after dealing with crossing into the US in the mornings and, to do this they have to wait in line up to 4 hours just to go back to their homes.

The problem is the great bottleneck that occurs in the new entrance crossing. There are several booths, but in the end, there is only one path for cars to go through and this makes everything extremely slow. That's why, there is a project to reopen Puerta México which is the crossing that was used before to return to Tijuana.

Everything you need to know about the reopening of Puerta México

According to information revealed by the National Agency of Mexico Customs, the reopening has been authorized and the Secretary of Economy and Innovation of Baja California, Kurt Honold Morales, stated that the costs and equipment to restore the gate are still not determined.

The state government of Baja California has already given permission to use this gate again, but it still needs to be restored; exact dates of when this could happen haven't been given yet. However, the phrase "as soon as possible" has been uttered. This could help waiting times to cross from San Diego to Tijuana to become much faster.

It should be noted that the area where this gate currently is located is being used to store the cars seized at the Tijuana port of entry. However, there are already plans to relocate these cars, which is why they won't be an obstacle so that this project can begin.
