President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Governor Marina del Pilar reaffirm progress at IMSS Bienestar

IMSS Bienestar has as a goal to become one of the best health systems in the world

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, alongside the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, reaffirmed the implementation of IMSS Bienestar as a universal health initiative meant for all people, regardless of their economic or social condition, benefiting at least more than 1.2 million inhabitants who don't have social security.

23 state governors attended the president's morning press conference, where they signed the agreement to implement IMSS Bienestar. This includes the state of Baja California where the work to improve hospital facilities tied to this framework’s social and wellbeing perspective with humanistic principles has begun.

In his speech, President López Obrador emphasized that in this health system, all doctors who are needed will be provided in more than 600 hospitals and 11,000 health centers, which will also include specialists and the necessary equipment to carry out several different procedures, including surgeries.

President López Obrador added that, besides the 53 million people who are not affiliated to IMSS, IMSS Bienestar will also treat people who live in remote communities without proper medical infrastructure, which is why it is becoming an instrument to bring health to all Mexicans, without any distinction.

For his part, the head of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Zoé Robledo Aburto, stated that there will be a specialized system of medical supplies that will allow for enough doses in all IMSS Bienestar facilities, which represents one of the greatest commitments regarding political health matters in the current presidential six-year term.

The state official said that the program "La Clínica es Nuestra" will be implemented in 9,000 health centers that will allow the community, through the establishment of committees, to have an impact on what the establishment needs and increase the assistance given to people. It should be noted that IMSS Bienestar currently has 131,961 workers.
