Governor Marina del Pilar receives baton of Tianguis Turístico 2025

This is Mexico's most important tourism event and one of the most significant ones in Latin America

From the Governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, received the baton to carry out Tianguis Turístico 2025, Mexico's most important tourism event. This event will be binational for the first time ever with guests from the tourism industry from both sides of the border.

With the presence in the official ceremony of the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, Governor Marina del Pilar recognized the people of Guerrero, especially the municipality of Acapulco, for dealing with Hurricane Otis in October 2024, one of the greatest natural disasters in modern history.

"It is a source of pride for all Baja Californians and a great responsibility to receive this baton and to do it right here, in the port of Acapulco, without a doubt, a reference landmark in Mexico when we talk about the great tourism in our country," she said.

She thanked the support from the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has aided Baja California through the Secretariat of Tourism, as this practice is a driving force for the economic development and a source of social wellbeing for thousands of Baja Californian families.

She also said that Baja California has recovered the flow of tourists that it had before the COVID-19 pandemic, registering a growth of 3.3% of American tourist flow in 2023, which translates to more than 12 million visitors that year. In addition, a significant 45% increase in the number of Canadian visitors was reported.

"We believe that this Tianguis Turístico will be decisive to impact markets whose visitor flow to our state has been growing, countries in Asia such as Japan, South Korea, and Singapore," she said and reiterated diversity as one of the greatest features and attractions of this border state.

Governor Marina del Pilar spoke about the notable attractions in the state such as Valle de Guadalupe, the capital of Mexican wine, craft beer, Chinese food in the city of Mexicali, the creativity of groups such as Takón Machine and Nortec, tourist tours in La Chinesca in Mexicali, among others.

For his part, Salgado Pineda highlighted the permanent collaboration that she has with the Government of Baja California and Governor Marina del Pilar and spoke about how Acapulco bounced back after the hurricane. She also thanked the support from the government of Mexico represented by Torruco Marqués.

The governor of Guerrero explained that Tianguis Turístico 2024, the 48th edition, had the participation of more than 43 countries, more than 1,900 exhibitors from the 32 Mexican federal entities, and 786 companies that offered the touristic variety of Guerrero and the rest of Mexico.

"I congratulate our dear Governor Marina del Pilar, I have no doubt about the quality of the great attractions that Baja California offers to the visitors of Mexico and the world," she said.

Meanwhile, Secretary Torruco Marqués said that this is the first time that Tianguis Turístico will take place in Mexico's northern border. At the same time, he recognized the work by the government of Guerrero for organizing an event of such high dimensions. As it is the Mexican tourism activity with the greatest relevance, it is significant that the Selection Committee chose Baja California as the venue for the Tianguis, which will take place from April 28 to May 1, 2025.

The federal official said that the Tijuana International Airport "Abelardo L. Rodríguez" stands out due to its high and growing connectivity that reaches more than 40 airports in Mexico. He also said: “The aerial dynamism of Baja California can be seen in the 45,681 flights registered last year, which exceeded those in 2022 with more than 7.6 million passengers.”

At this event the following people were present: Gloria Garza, wife of the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco; Abelina López, the municipal president of Acapulco; Santos Ramírez Cuevas, the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, and Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, who presented a campaign to promote state produced craft beer as a product to boost more visits to the state.
