Shakira brings tour to border this weekend

Colombian star to perform in Tijuana, Mexicali

TIJUANA – Colombian super star Shakira is bringing her world tour to the border this weekend for two concerts.

As of Monday, about 85 per cent of tickets have been sold for Saturday's concert in Tijuana at Estadio Caliente. Proceeds will go to Fundación Por Ayudar, presided by María Elvia Amaya de Hank, wife of controversial businessman Jorge Hank Rhon.

The next day she's scheduled to perform in Baja California's capital of Mexicali, at the Center for Expositions and Fairs, known as the Fex.

Shakira has been on the road with her "The Sun Comes World Tour 2011." In June she played several dates in Europe and since mid-July she's appeared in Mexico, including stops in Mérida and Cancún.

She released a new single in June, "Rabiosa" (Rabid), which has versions in English and Spanish, with Pitbull and El Cata, making guest appearances, respectively.

In Tijuana, tickets prices are $48, $80 and $200 and may be purchased that box office at Caliente Stadium or by phoning 011-52-664-633-7300 (if calling from the United States).

Concert-goers coming from San Diego are encouraged to car-pool. Parking at the stadium likely will be $8, and as is the case in most places, valuables should not be left in vehicles.

The stadium doors will open at 3 p.m., when the festivities begin with live music, food and beverages. The Shakira show is to begin at 9 p.m.
