Eight people killed in three days across Tijuana

Weekend violence includes attack on party

TIJUANA – Authorities are investigating the shooting deaths of four people and an attack on partygoers on Sunday and Monday, authorities announced.

The state Attorney General’s Office recorded 379 murders in Tijuana this year through Sept. 30, or 1.4 murders a day. The story was the same in October, with four murders committed in just three days.

Two of them occurred on Sunday. Around 6:40 a.m. the body of a man with several gunshot wounds was found inside a Nissan Altima, which was on a street in colonia Obrera, southeast of the city.

The victim has been identified as Ramón Serrano Lomelí, 43. Another man, identified as Hugo René Zarco Moreno, who was with him during the attack, died later of gunshot wounds at Tijuana General Hospital, the state agency said.

Two other victims, also shot to death, were found around 2:30 a.m. Monday in the eastside neighborhood of Mariano Matamoros.

The Attorney General’s Office indicated that one of the victims, unidentified, was found on the street, while the body of another man was found inside a nearby house. He was identified as Antonio Avena Villela.

For its part, Tijuana’s Public Safety Department announced that an armed attack occurred around 8 a.m. Sunday in the Unión neighborhood in the western beach district Playas de Tijuana.

A group of armed men arrived at a location where a party was being held and opened fire on the guests, among them a municipal officer named Adán Armando Castillo, who responded by firing his weapon in the air, according to the department the aggressors fled.

One person was wounded in the attack, a woman identified as Gloria Pantoja, 25. A total of 23 spent shell casings from various weapons were found at the scene.

On Friday, the story was much the same. State authorities informed that four people were killed in separate incidents, all on the east side.
