TIJUANA – Ghouls will invade city streets Saturday night to pay tribute to their favorite horror film in the first Zombie Walk.

Paola Hernández, the event's coordinator, said that zombies from other cities have been invited to join the fun, so as many as 1,000 mostly young people, dressed as their favorite netherworld character, are expected to participate.

"Zombie Walks have become international events that celebrate this movie genre," the coordinator said.

In fact, there's Halloween Zombie Walk, also Saturday night, in downtown San Diego.

Organizers of both marches stress that all souls are invited to join the fun but must remain peaceful.

"We've said it before, this march is for our love of the genre that has given us so much," said the Tijuana organizers web page under the heading Rules." "Let's tolerate our fellow humanoids and march in total peace. Let's demonstrate that equality exists among Zombies, Humans and Hunters (at least during the march)."

Zombie Walk Tijuana is to begin at 3 p.m. in the Río zone, in the traffic circle on Paseo de los Hérores where the Cuauhtémoc monument is located. The marchers will continue on Seventh Street to downtown and end under the arc of the digital clock on avenida Revolución.

There's no cost to participate, and entire families are welcome, including pets. Artists will be available to apply make-up at the start of the march.

"If you like zombies or you agree with the philosophy of the march or if you're just curious, you're welcome to join us," Hernández said. "It's good to do something different every once in a while, and, most important, to help bring us together."
