SENTRI crossers urged to renew as soon as possible

Renewal can be processed through the Internet

Don’t wait until your SENTRI pass is expiring before applying for renewal through the Internet to avoid an interruption in use.

That’s the message from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which recently reminded SENTRI pass-holders that they may continue to use the fast-pass lanes while the renewal is being processed, even if the pass has expired.

The SENTRI program allows travelers who have been reviewed by border authorities to cross using special lanes that move traffic through in an average of five to ten minutes.

Traffic increases during the holidays, with wait times lasting three or more hours on peak days.

Pass-holders must file for renewal through the Internet and pay a fee. They get an appointment for a CBP agent to review the information with the applicant.

Initial applicants to the SENTRI program must submit detailed personal information, fingerprints, photos and proof of income, as well as proof of nationality. The application fee is $122.25, and a pass is good for five years.

More information is available at www.sentri.gov or by phoning (877) 227-5511.
