Xolos and Toluca: the race for first place

The winner of Sunday's game will be the super leader on the boards.

TIJUANA.-Although the most talked about game this week in the Mexican soccer league is about the classic rivalry between the Chivas Rayadas of Guadalajara and Aguilas del America, in the northern part of the country there will be also another spectacular game that will be taking place between the first and second place teams, whom both are looking for the win that will place them as the super leader in the division one position boards.

The Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente will be receiving on their synthetic field the Diablos Rojos from Toluca, in the game that will take place at 6pm sharp at Estadio Caliente as part week 12 of the apertura tournament 2012.

Currently Tijuana is in the second place position with 24 points thanks to 7 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss, and even though the border town team is not coming up in this game with the best results from the last 5 games played (3 wins, 2 draws), they have at least not been defeated in the last 9 consecutive games played.

On their part, the "choriceros" of Toluca are looking to be a very dangerous opponent here at home, who are currently in first place with 26 points as the result of

8 wins, 2 draws and barely 1 loss with 3 of their victories won consecutively in the Liga MX.

The race for first place has been intensifying in the last few weeks, but it was since week 3 of the tournament when Toluca got to first place, that Xolos were lurking close by in 5th place with a 3 points difference.

3 weeks went by and finally in week 6 Toluca continued to be in first place with 16 points and Xolos with 13.

It wasn't until after the following game in which the team tied, that the difference between these two teams was now only by 1 point.

Precisely with that difference followed by 1 loss, is what caused the team from the state of Mexico to lose their first place position, being the same case in which Xolos would find themselves in week 8.

Xolos then in the next 3 weeks after was able to tie with Atlas, win against Queretaro and tied again with Monterrey, keeping the team still in second place right behind Toluca.

The tickets for this interesting and exciting match have been already sold out which only means one thing, that Estadio Caliente will be a packed stadium that every inch of the place will be vibrating from all the chants of "Xolos, Xolos".
