Boxing: Danny Garcia KO's Erik"El Terrible" Morales

Morales announced his retirement from the ring.

It was a "Terrible" end for one of the greatest Mexican boxers.

Erik Morales (52-9, 36K.O's) lost against Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 K.O's) in four rounds at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and announced that he will retire from boxing next year in Tijuana, after saying goodbye to the fans from the United States.

The four time world champion of 36 years of age had an encouraging start, but was not able to compete with the speed and power of a young 24 year old Garcia, that felt that he took advantage at the right moment of the fight, by not giving the fighter from Tijuana a chance.

After two excellent rounds Morales showed his experience and technique, but in the third round Morales gave in to the speed of the fighter from Philadelphia, who hit Morales with a powerful punch and made him wobble.

Fortunately Morales was saved by the bell, but the one minute rest was not enough for him to recover, and despite his condition he still left his corner for the next round, where he made the mistake to get close to Garcia to exchange punches, which as of the result he received a left hook to the chin that hurt him and sent him down to the ring floor.

Great job from Erik's corner that jumped into the ring to stop the fight, although Erik was trying to get back up and recover, an intelligent move was made by his corner, which after Garcia noticed that Morales corner jumped in, he climbed up the ropes to celebrate his new victory.

It was without a doubt the end of the career of a great fighter, who still plans to fight one more time next year to say goodbye to his fans in Tijuana, which he announced after saying goodbye to his fans from the U.S. tonight, at a historic fight that marked the inauguration of boxing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

"I want to thank everyone; this is my last fight in the United States, and thank you for all your support throughout all these years", said Morales at the end of the fight, and added "I want to say goodbye in Tijuana".

Morales accepted that he had nothing left to do in boxing, and that time has led him to retirement, but not without thanking everyone for all the support he had received for a career that has lasted nineteen and a half years.

Just like that, it was a goodbye to a great nation that saw him win 4 titles in different weight classes, where they saw him fight against some of the best boxers of his time, and go up against a good amount of world champions including his victory over the great Manny Pacquiao.

There will be enough time from now until his goodbye fight, to give him some sort of recognition, but better yet he will most likely in a few years be inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York.
