Baja 1000 will start this Thursday

Get ready for the checkered flag

EDITORIAL. – On Thursday at the Port of Ensenada the checkered flag to start the 45th edition of the off road race Baja 1000 will be waved, which will also provide a strong international presence in Baja California, where more than 300 teams and 34 institutions from the United States and 23 countries will be participating in the event.

The Secretary of State Tourism Juan Tintos Funcke, said that they are expecting the arrival of thousands of fans, who will be at the Port to enjoy and review the mechanical contingency on Wednesday, and also witness the take-off of the dirt bikes, cars and trucks, including the famous "Trophy Truck" on Thursday, while many other fans will move along the path leading to the corridors to the south of the peninsula, allowing a good number of visitors in places like San Felipe, San Quintin, El Rosario, Cataviña and the (bay) "Bahia de Los Angeles".

He also mentioned that instructions were given from the State Governor, Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan, for the close coordination of many levels of authority like local authorities, State Preventive Police, Federal Police, SEDENA, Green Angels, Customs and Immigration, to receive and assist all of the participating teams and the thousands of visitors who come to this international event. This order has begun to be followed since last Monday, where teams have already started to make their way into Baja crossing the Otay border, as was the case of SCORE and BF Goodrich, headed by Sal Fish, and which on Tuesday teams have also been assisted at the checkpoint "El Chaparral".

According to the event organizers they have accredited about 120 representatives from various types of media from newspapers, radio, television, magazines and internet news sites from over 30 countries on five continents that will be covering the race, which this will contribute to project a positive image of Mexico and Baja California to host world-class sporting event.

The engines will begin to roar on Thursday at 6:30a.m. where motorcycles will first take-off, while cars, trucks and the off-road vehicles will depart at 11:30 am, all in the Lazaro Cardenas Boulevard that is in front of the Social Center, Civic and Cultural Riviera of Ensenada, where it will be the starting point from which the runners will then seek the get to finish line that will be located in La Paz, Baja California South, with a total traveled distance of 1,121 miles along the Baja California peninsula.

Participants include representatives from the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea and Spain among other countries.

Finally, the Secretary of State Tourism makes the following recommendations to the fans who come to Ensenada, and who stationed themselves along the route to enjoy the passage of the competitors of the Baja 1000, to obey the signals and directions of the authorities and respect the passing of vehicles without obstructing the race, and to respect the environment and take care of properly dousing off all bond fires.
