Florence Cassez is set free

The judgment was reversed and her immediate release was ordered

MEXICO CITY: The case of Frenchwoman, Florence Cassez, started today at 12:45p.m. (Mexico City local time), in which the hearing took place in the first court room at the Supreme Court of Justice in Mexico.

With a majority of three votes in favor for her release, Minister Sánchez Cordero reversed the previous sentence and ordered for her to be set free immediately, on grounds that her rights had been violated.

Judges Cossio and Saldivar, who were also on the panel reviewing Cassez case, voted against her release.

Cassez was arrested in 2005 in Mexico City and was accused of kidnaping, but immediately denied the charges which she was sentence to 96 years in prison for.

Her extradition was previously blocked by the Mexican Government, and this is the second time that the Supreme Court in Mexico reviews her case. In 2009 the court only reduced her sentence to 60 years in prison.

Cassez will now be set free.
