5 dead in explosion at PEMEX building in Mexico

The cause is not yet known

Whale Bay and Bay of All Saints, Miguel Hidalgo, in Mexico City is the location where the administrative building of Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is located, and where an explosion occurred which early reports are pointing out that the explosion happened in the basement of the B2 building.

Spokesman for Pemex, Francisco Montano, confirmed that it was an explosion, but at the moment they are not sure where or what caused the explosion.

It is presumed that the building’s basement ceiling collapsed, and is the reason for the severe injuries which prompted officials to evict everyone from building as a safety measure.

Currently, emergency medical units, the Red Cross, the fire department and Civil Protection personnel have closed off the area to prevent people from entering.

Goverment officials from the Federal District have confirmed so far: 5 people dead, 75 injured and 30 people trapped.
