According to a statement released by the Russian Emergencies Ministry:

"A meteorite disintegrated above the Urals, partially burning up in the lower atmosphere," and added that "Fragments of the meteorite reached Earth, falling in sparsely populated areas in the Chelyabinsk region," the ministry said in a statement.

There are also some unofficial reports of at least 150 people injured and some structural damages.
