Earlier today, Mauricio Lopez, Minister of the Interior in Guatemala, retracted the statements that were issued yesterday by the Guatemalan government, of the death of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman as a result of a military confrontation with drug traffickers in Peten.
This news immediately spread in social networks and all kinds of international media. After these rumors were known, Guatemalan authorities said there was no evidence of a confrontation, which is something that the Minister, Mauricio Lopez, has now confirmed of not being true.
The Mexican government has also denied that officials from Mexico had traveled to Guatemala to identify the body, although the local media and residents of Guatemala have reported the presence of members of the DEA and Mexican troops.
The only confirmation that has been made is through some documents that were leaked by Wikileaks, who indicated that Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman was in Peten.
