Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto meets with U.S. politicians

They discuss border issues

President Enrique Peña Nieto welcomed to Los Pinos former U.S. presidential candidate John McCain, who is now the republican representative for the state of Arizona, on his tour to Mexico City.

The President of Mexico and McCain agreed on the need for both countries to work together to have a safer and more efficient border, and discussed the enormous economic importance of the border region, the need to build on the progress and administration on it’s in modernizing, and the desire of any other additional investments of the infrastructure at the border.

The president reiterated that the Federal Government of Mexico welcomes and supports the debate on comprehensive immigration reform in the United States, and stressed the determination shown by the President Barack Obama to push this agenda.

Peña Nieto also met with the Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Castro, who was accompanied by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Jose Antonio Meade Kuribreña, the Undersecretary for North America, Sergio Alcocer Martinez de Castro, The Chief of Staff, Robbie Greenblum, San Antonio City Council member, Ray Lopez, and the Deputy Chief of Mission from the U.S. embassy in Mexico, Laura Dogu.
