Mexico beats Team USA 5-2 at the WBC

Adrian Gonzalez' home run helped the Mexican cause

PHOENIX, ARIZONA.- Baseball in the United States never looked so sad, as Team Mexico had a fantastic night to beat Team USA 5-2 in a game from Group D of the World Baseball Classic.

The Mexican team took advantage early in the game by scoring twice during the first inning, and with a home run by Adrian Gonzalez, took a significantly lead in the match 4-0.

The US tried hard to come back from that deficit with a single by David Wright that would see Jimmy Rollins score, but Luis Cruz sacrificed a fly to the left field to let Eduardo Arredondo score in the top of the fifth.

At the bottom of the eight Eric Hosmer's single would produce another for Team USA but it was too late for the locals.

Yovani Gallardo (1-0) was named the winning pitcher with R.A. Dickey (0-1) as the losing. Sergio Romo (1) came in to save and close the historic win.

Mexico will now play against Canada at the closing match of Group D and needs a victory to be able to advance to the next round.
