Eliminating long distance costs in Baja California

Starting today, a call from Tijuana to Rosarito and Tecate will cost the same as one done locally

TIJUANA, BC.- Great news for telephone users in Baja California as today the Federal Telecommunications Commission (Cofetel in Spanish) announced the elimination of long distance costs for the majority of the municipalities in Baja California; this means that a call between Rosarito, Tijuana or Tecate will cost the same as one done locally.

This was the result of hard work, almost 2 years lobbying before the Cofetel, by deputy with licence Fernando Castro Trenti, who saw how costly were calls between cities and sometimes close places in Baja California.

The area codes will stay the same, with 7 through the Baja Californian territory, but Cofeteal created 4 zones: the one with Tijuana, Tecate and Playas de Rosarito; one with Mexicali and La Rumorosa town; as well as one with the city of Ensenada, Maneadero, Ejito Esteban Cantu, La Mision, San Vicente, Francisco Serrando and Valle de Palmas. The fourth zone will be the rest of the towns in Ensenada like San Quintin.

The savings will benefit more than 2,500,000 million persons in Baja California and will start today.
