State government officials of Baja California and from the municipal governments of Playas de Rosarito, Tijuana, Tecate and Ensenada, were all part of the inauguration of the Baja California Metropolitan Convention Center, a site that will set a new standard for tourism in the region.

The Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), Juan Jose Guerra Abud,attended the event on behalf of the Meixcan President Enrique Peña Nieto, and stressed that the Baja California Center is equipped and prepared to accommodate high-level events, which will enable the promotion of touristic and economic development of the coastal zone.

The convention center has the capacity to accommodate more than 8,000 people in the main hall, and 6,000 if it is a banquet. It took 30 years to consolidate the idea to develop this project that needed an investment of 740 million dollars. The Baja California Center is now without a doubt the best convention center in the northwestern part of Mexico.

Regional, national and international events will be held in this modern facility that was inaugurated by authorities of the three levels of government and private sector representatives, which will project Baja California as a venue worthy of mass concerts, exhibitions, conferences and conventions of all kinds.

The exhibition halls in this facility also include an air conditioning system, capable of operating with simultaneous events going on at the same time such as exhibitions, conferences and banquets. It also has a fire protection system based on automatic sprinklers, and automated lighting to control and optimize the use of energy.

For the second stage of this project, the Government of Baja California will leave at the hands of the next government administration to build an exhibition hall that will measure about 18 thousand square meters, a rear parking lot with the capacity for 800 cars, and a large hall for conventions, conferences and banquets measuring 4,000 square meters, among other things.

During the convention center inauguration, attendees were able to enjoy a bit of what the opening ceremony will be like with regional dance and music talent shows.

One of the first events that will be held at Baja California Center is the National Olympics. Soon after, there will be national boxing sporting events and conventions that are being planned to be held here.
