Officials confirmed yesterday that a candidate of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), who is running for mayor of the city Guadalupe y Calvo, located in the northern state of Chihuahua, has been missing since Monday night and is believed to have been kidnapped.
"While no complaint about his disappearance has been made, there are signs that validate the version that the candidate was kidnapped by an armed group," said in a statement the Attorney General of Chihuahua.
Police forces along with other security agencies in the region of Guadalupe y Calvo "are looking for Jaime Orozco Madrigal, candidate for mayor of this municipality, nominated by the PRI party", adds the statement.
State Attorney sources consulted by Efe said the victim was abducted on Monday night by a group of "about ten men", who were armed and who took him away in a van heading to some unknown location for reasons not yet known.
Yesterday morning there was no sign of the politician, the same sources added, and who informed that Madrigal was currently still "missing".
