Flash look to bounce back in the San Diego Derby

San Diego Flash takes on San Diego Boca

SAN DIEGO - After stringing together a seven game unbeaten streak and coming within a point of first place, the San Diego Flash were cut down by division leading FC Hasental last weekend. With few games left in the regular season and playoffs around the corner the Flash will look to rebound against local rivals San Diego Boca in the San Diego Derby.

The San Diego Derby is scheduled for 6:00PM on Saturday June 22 at the Del Norte High School stadium in Rancho Bernardo.

Only three games remain in the regular season of the NPSL Western South division. San Diego Flash is now tied in points with FC Santa Clarita with 20 and four points back of division leading FC Hasental. Only two teams will advance from this division to the playoffs and the Flash will look to get back on winning form.

On paper this San Diego Derby should give the Flash a perfect opportunity to get back to winning form, their local rivals San Diego Boca have not had a good season with a 1-2-8 record they sit in last place of the division.

But as any soccer player will tell you derby games are different. Team records do not come into play in derby matches as more than just the three points are at stake. Especially when it is a local derby match where the teams share the same city. This game will be for the bragging rights in San Diego. At this point of the season nothing would make San Diego Boca happier than to complicate Flash's place in the playoffs.

During halftime of each home game the San Diego Flash usually gives away raffle prizes, and on Saturday they will add a pair of tickets the USA vs Guatemala friendly at Qualcomm Stadium on July 5.

Tickets are only $10 for adult and $5 for child. They can be purchased on the team website (here) on at the gate the day of the game.

San Diego Red will have the coverage of the San Diego Derby from Del Norte High. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
