On Thursday July 11, the city of Tijuana celebrated its 124 year birthday, which besides the cake and a birthday song, the city will also enjoy a whole month of celebration in its honor, with activities for the whole family that can also be enjoyed by the citizens of both sides of the border.
On Thursday night, a cake of more than five feet was cut, just like in every birthday party. The special guests who were in charge of cutting the cake were Mr. Obed Silva, Secretary of Government, and who was also present on behalf of the Mayor, Ms. Elsa Arnaiz Rosas, director of the Institute for Art and Culture, Ms. Carolina Bustamante, president of the Board of Municipal DIF, and Richard Fitch, president of United for Tijuana AC.
"We are pleased to continue this celebration which 24 years ago was promoted by the civil association 'United for Tijuana', headed by Richard Fitch, in a place so traditional such as the Teniente Guerrero Park, and also with families who decades ago arrived to this city and have helped form it into what Tijuana is today, "said the director of IMAC in an interview.
Yesterday morning the mayor of this city, Carlos Bustamante, topped off the anniversary ceremony at City Hall, and mentioned that Tijuana would continue to grow with the support of all its residents.
Throughout the next few weekends, there will be several festivals held, where visitors can enjoy different foods and drinks from the region. There will be festivals and activities that will be held in different points of the city, which will also include a free concert that will headline the Mexican singer Gloria Trevi. The festivities will end on August 18.
