TIJUANA, BC. - For the first time in the history of the Little World Series in Williamsport, a team from the border city of Tijuana, Baja California, will be part of this great tournament, after winning their ticket to represent Mexico at this great event which will be held in August.

The Municipal Youth Little League Baseball team of Tijuana was able to beat the Beto Avila Little League team from the state of Veracruz, Mexico, 11-5 , and were crowned national champions in the tournament that was held in Ciudad Reynosa, Tamaulipas, for kids ages 11 to 12. With this great feat, the team from Tijuana now joins the IMSS Little League of Mexicali, as the only two teams in Baja California to represent Mexico in this important youth sporting event.

It is important to note that in the semifinals match, where Tijuana beat the Kelly Trevino Little League team, Tijuana pulled off the victory thanks to a perfect game thrown by Brandon Meza.

Mexico will debut at the Little League World Series on Thursday, August 15 at 2:00 pm (PST) against a team from Australia, represented by the Perth Metro Central League, and who will be also competing for the first time in this tournament as well.

The last time an Aztec team tasted the sweetness of victory was back in 1997, when the Cowboys from the Linda Vista Little League of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, were crowned champions in Williamsport Little League World Series, after defeating South Mission Viejo Little League from Mission Viejo, California.
