Mexico vs Trinidad & Tobago: Must keep on winning

El Tri is will be obligated to get through the quarterfinals round.

ATLANTA, GA - Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre confrontational as always said in his last press conference "I am not obligated to win anything. I am committed to trying to win this competition. That is all." Unfortunately for him that is completely wrong. Mexico must win their game against Trinidad & Tobago or he will risk losing his job.

The game between Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago is scheduled for Saturday July 20 in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA at 6:30PM local time (3:30PM pacific).

Mexico has shown small signs of improvement with each passing game since that 2-1 loss against Panama in the opening game of the Gold Cup. But there are still big flaws in the Mexican team that neither fans nor media are content with.

During the last match against Martinique, El Tri completely dominated the game from the start, they took some time before finally scoring a goal, but they manage to get a two goal lead. When it all seemed like Mexico would finally put in an acceptable performance, a miscue in defense led to a Martinique penalty. And with only a one goal lead Mexico stopped pressuring and dominating the second half.

For this game Mexico will need to maintain their domination throughout more of the game. And they'll have to reflect it on the scoreboard. Even with their low form this Mexico alternative squad should and must get through Trinidad & Tobago to advance to the semifinals.

The Caribbean side surprised a team that in theory is stronger than them in the final game of the group stage. They managed a 2-0 win over Honduras to qualify into the knockout phase of the Gold Cup. They will have nothing to lose against Mexico and will be looking to give one more shocking upset over another team that is supposed to be superior to them.
