Mexico 1-0 Trinidad & Tobago: El Tri barely escapes T&T and is in the semis

ATLANTA – With a Raul Jimenez goal in the 85th minute the Mexican National Team was able to beat Trinidad & Tobago in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Gold Cup.

With this win Mexico is now in the semifinals round of the Gold Cup, after having suffered in each of its games to get here.

The game it’s self was very cut down and Mexico was not really able to establish any dominance over their rivals today at any point of the match.

During the first half of the match the Caribbean side played toe-to-toe with the Mexicans and prevented Carlos Peña and Marco Fabian from creating any real danger.

In the second half not much changed, the game became end to end with out any team dominating the other.

But with five minutes left in the match right back Miguel Layiun dribbled down the right wing and sent in a diagonal pass towards Raul Jimenez who was able to put in the ball making the charge by goalkeeper Jan Michel Williams useless. This was Jimenez’s second goal of the competition.

Mexico will now face Panama on July 24 at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas Texas. The Panamanians defeated Cuba 6-1 in the first game of Saturday’s double header.
