Liga Bancomer MX Week 1 Review

Two games were not played

In theory week one of the new season of Liga Bancomer MX is complete. Two games were not played; Chivas vs Santos and Tigres vs Club America due to the fact that both Chivas and Club America have three or more players currently on Nationa Team duties in the Gold Cup.

Game 1 – Queretaro lost at home to Morelia with a score of 1-3. Edgar Andrade scored the first goal of the new season in the 27th minute, Jefferson Montero at the 45th minute and Hector Mancilla in the 73rd minute also scored for the visiting Morelia. Mario Osuna in the 87th minute got the home side on the board.

Game 2 – Tijuana Xolos lost a two goal lead twice in this game against Atlas to end with a 3-3 draw. Dario Benedetto got the Xolos to a 2-0 lead with goals in the 6th and 17th minute. Vicente Matias Vuoso scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute to pull Atlas with in one. In the second half Benedetto reached his "Hat-Trick" to make it 3-1. Vuoso with a bicycle in the 69th minute gave life once again to Atlas, and Edson Rivera completed the come back in the 84th minute after a great play by Vuoso.

Game 3 – Last season's runners up Cruz Azul started the season with a 1-0 win at home against Monterrey. The lone goal of the match was scored by Rogelio Chavez through a penalty kick in the second half.

Game 4 – The league's newbie Veracruz kicked off the season with a dramatic 2-2 draw at home against Jaguares Chiapas (formerly San Luis). Aviles Hurtado got the visitors the lead in the 21st minute. Luis Tejada equalized for Veracruz in the 51st minute on a penalty kick. Five minutes before the end once again Aviles Hurtado gave Chiapas de the lead. But Veracurz's biggest signing Angel Reyna scored the equalizer in stoppage time.

Game 5 – Leon suffered more than they should have, but they ended up beating a weak Atlante side that was left with 10 men thanks to a "Kikin" Fonseca ejection. Leon youth product Mauricio Castañeda got the lone goal in the 81st minute.

Game 6 – In spite of various rumors in the past few days of Puebla firing their coach Manuel Lapuente days before the start of the season, the "camoteros" managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw against Pumas of UNAM. Martin Bravo got Pumas the lead in the 28th minute, and Matias Alustisa tied the game with two minutes left in the game.

Game 7 – With club legend Jose Saturnino Cardozo debuting as manager Toluca took a 0-1 loss to Pachuca. Othoniel Arce got the lone goal in the 78th minute.

Game 8 – Tigres vs America will be played on Tuesday October 29 at 8:45PM local time (6:45PM pacific)

Game 9 – Chivas vs Santos will be played on Wednesday October 30 at 8:00PM local time (6:00PM pacific)
