Jorge Almiron: "I don't know how seriously they will take this game"

The Tijuana Xolos manager spoke before facing Luis A. Firpo in CCL.

TIJUANA – The Club Tijuana manager Jorge Almiron addressed the media on the eve of the club's first ever home game in the CONCACAF Champion's League (CCL). Almiron seemed confident that his side will take all three points tomorrow (Wednesday) night at the Estadio Caliente when they face current El Salvadorian champions Club Deportivo Luis Angel Firpo.

When asked what to expect from the Central Americans, if he expected them to come out and attack due to their need to pick up points or whether he expected to sit back and try and hold Tijuana off; this is what Almiron had to say.

"I honestly can't tell you, I don't know what to expect from them. Even in our first game when they were the home side they sat back and looked to counter attack. This time they traveled a long way, did some shopping, and held a small scrimmage in stead of practicing; so I don't even know how seriously they are taking this match. But we are taking it very seriously and will be looking for the win."

The Salvadorians will come into this game wounded from losing four of their best players to the match fixing scandal that saw the El Salvadorian Federation suspend a total of 22 players while the investigation continues. Almiron acknowledged the fact that this situation will benefit his team.

"Of course it will be an advantage; they lost four of their starting players. It is like if someone came and took away Arce, Pellerano, Gandolfi, and Saucedo from us, we would be hurting. But now it is up to us to take advantage of the situation and go out and get the win" explained the Argentine manager.

Finally Almiron mentioned that he'd like to get the CCL knockout round qualification taken care of as soon as possible to re focus on the local league where the Xolos have been struggling a bit as of late.

"We need to go out and win this game; a win will almost guarantee our advancement into the next round. We also have long travels ahead of us this weekend and an extremely difficult match against Chiapas on Saturday. They are fighting a relegation battle and every game is important; especially their home games. I've played in relegation threaten teams and know the pressure and motivation to go out and try to win every game so we'll have to be well aware of that" concluded Almiron.
