USMNT 2-0 Jamaica: Comfortable and dominant win

Xolos’ Edgar Castillo gets an assist

KANSAS CITY - The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) who already had their FIFA World Cup ticket secured to Brazil achieved a rather easy and comfortable 2-0 win over Jamaica.

During the first half it was clear that the Americans were already qualified to the World Cup as they showed no sense of urgency. The visiting Jamaicans looked the most dangerous in the first period as the pressured the home side high up the field. The best goalscoring opportunity of the first period was from the Reggae Boys, but between U.S. goalkeeper Howard and defender Evans they managed to clear the ball away.

For the second half USMNT manager Jürgan Klinsmann made several changes and brought in players who are still fighting for a permanent spot on the squad; players like Club Tijuana’s Edgar Castillo who was subbed in at the 65th minute mark for fellow Liga MX player DaMarcus Beasley from Puebla.

The new faces and hunger from these players changed the face of the game as the USMNT started to dominate the action and started to look more threatening on the Jamaica goal.

Halftime substitute and local boy Graham Zusi (who plays for Sporting Kansas City) got the opening goal of the match in the 77th minute after a low cross from the right and a one time cross-body shot.

Tijuana Xolos’ Edgar Castillo who came into the game with loads of energy wanting to prove himself dribbled to the end lone, cut inside and sent a low cross to Jozy Altidore so the Sunderland FC striker could just tap the ball into the open net.

The USMNT will now travel to Panama City where on Tuesday night they will face Panama. A win by the Americans would really help their Mexican rivals as they fight the fourth place spot with the Panamanians.
