Tijuana Xolos in U20 semifinals.

Xolos U20 take a 2-1 win in front of good size crowd

TIJUANA - The first division team might be on vacation already, but the Xolos U20 team is marching onto the semifinals of the U20 division

of the Liga Bancomer MX. The Xoloiztcuintles got a 2-1 win over Chiapas FC at the Estadio Caliente, plus a 0-2 win in Chiapas for an aggregate score of 4-1.

Huge turnout by the fans of the Xolos on this Sunday night to support the U20 squad. La Masak3 fan group and their constant singing really made the game feel like a real first division Xolos match.

Club Tijuana began the match at a slower pace managing the two goal lead they had achieved in Chiapas. The visiting side did not produce too much pressure on the Tijuana goal and the home side was able to get a hold of the ball and build up their dominance over their rival.

Three American citizens took part of the match for the Xolos. Esteban "Stevie" Rodriguez and Paul Arriola were in the starting lineup; and both left their mark on the match. While Alejandro Guido got subbed into the match in the second half when Arriola had to be carted off with what looked like a hamstring injury.

In the 30th minute Paul Arriola sent in a long cross from the right side of the field to where Edgar Villegas volleyed the ball into the net for the opening goal of the match. MInutes later the visitors would find an equalizing goal to send the game to the break with the score 1-1.

In the second half Xolos took more control of the possession and subsequently the match. Stevie Rodriguez surprised everyone at the Estadio Caliente when he decided to have a shot from about 40 yards out. The ball sailed over the goalkeeper's head and into the net for the 2-1 Xolos lead in the 60th minute.

Club Tijuana will now face Leon in the semifinals of the U20 category of the Liga Bancomer MX.
