Diego Torres: "We have four steps to go"

Xolos U20 coach talked about his team's quarterfinal victory.

TIJUANA - Diego Torres the Xolos U20 manager; or "coach" since he humbly asked not to be referred to as "profe" a nickname given to all soccer managers in Spanish; talked about his team's victory over Chiapas in the quarterfinals of the Liga Bancomer MX U20 division.

"We are taking this step by step. We have completed two steps and now have four to go" said Torres in a press conference following the match in which his side won 2-1 "We are very motivated about being the playoffs, and must focus on Leon starting now."

Youth games at the U20 and U17 divisions in Mexico usually do not have big crowds, but last night the Estadio Caliente saw an estimated 10,000 people come watch the Xolos' youngsters. There was a professional first team match feeling in the stands. Something that Torres is very grateful for.

"This just goes to show that we in Tijuana have the best support in the country. In no other U20 game will you find the kind of support seen tonight. Maybe in the championship game, but never in a quarterfinals game.

"It took the players a little bit of time to get use to the crowd and settle down, but after a few minutes we were able to start passing the ball around and the goals then came in.

"We have really received a 1st team treatment, by the fans and the club as well. This will help these players grow. I have no doubt they will be playing 1st division soccer really soon."

Diego Torres also explained that Paul Arriola will most likely miss the first leg match against Leon, but hopes to have him ready for the weekend's second leg match in Leon.

"It seems to be a pulled hamstring, hopefully it is not something more serious; but we won't know for sure until the swelling goes down. He'll probably miss the first leg match here next week, but hopefully he'll be available to play the return leg.

"I know who ever takes his (Paul Arriola) place will do a good job. I have a team-full of quality players. Paul was here to reinforce the squad because of his quality and playing time with the senior squad and his National Team. But there are players here who have been playing quality football all season long capable of taking over his position."
