Liga MX more popular than Premier League in USA

The Mexican league beats out the Prem in TV ratings.

UNITED STATES - Football (soccer) keeps growing in popularity each an every day in the United States. Football has all types of different flavors for everyone to enjoy; and it seems that in the United States (according to television ratings) that the Mexican LIGA Bancomer MX is the most popular flavor.

According to this article by Soccer America Daily the television network Univision along with it’s affiliates like Univision Deportes Network and Unimas enjoyed much higher ratings than NBC and NBC Sports and their showing of England’s Barcley’s Premier League.

During the Apertura 2013 season (which ran from August 2013 - December 2013) there was an average of 991,000 viewers; 37% more than NBC who averaged 725,000 viewers during the first half of the 2013/14 season.

The championship match between Club America and Leon drew 3.3 million viewers for Univision, compared to the EPL’s most watched matched that was Liverpool vs Arsenal on November 2nd. That match drew 991,000 viewers.

It is worth noting that all Mexican league coverage is in Spanish and a higher number of viewers can be reached in Mexican soccer if TV networks were to provide English language coverage.
