CULIACAN.- With people still talking and wondering about Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's capture and entire way of life, with even admirers holding rallies for him in Sinaloa, artist writing songs about him and people flocking to see where he hid and what places he visited (there's even a television series), officials in Culiacan, Sinaloa, are thinking of taking advantage of the fascination with the character of "El Chapo" by creating a tour of places where the world's most wanted drug dealer lived, inspired by the "Narco tours" in Mazatlan that have grown in popularity in recent years.

"We won't hold any prejudices against the idea, it sounds like [people believe] we shouldn't value it, but this would be mostly for tourist that visit us from other parts of the world, outside of Mexico", said Culiacan Mayor Sergio Torres Félix.

"The proposal might seem like our crazy idea, but you see them in other countries that take advantage of situations like these. So, I believe that it would be fine to analyze the proposal seriously and not just discard it and later regret it."

Francisco Córdova Celaya, the state's tourism secretary, noted a rise in hotel bookings just after the drug lord's capture, and since then the national hoteliers director, Armando de la Cruz Uribe, proposed authorities formally establish "Chapo Tours" to help tourist visit several emblematic points in the life of "El Chapo."
