Visit the "2014 Mexicali Spring Beerfest "

This Saturday, April 12 enjoy Baja craft-beer under the sun

MEXICALI.- The Baja state capital is not the latest city with a beer festival. This Saturday, April 12 from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., the cachanilla city invites you to its "Mexicali Beerfest de Primavera 2014", or its Spring 2014 beer festival, at the Vicente Guerrero Park Macroplaza. This year, the festival will have 35 breweries from Mexicali, Ensenada, Rosarito, Tecate and Tijuana, as well as special guest breweries from San Diego, Cabo and Monterrey.

The event's program will include for the first time a so-called Mexicali Beer Challenge, a beer contest with two categories Professional and Amateur, with the second more focused towards homebrewers or micro brewers. Participating beers will be evaluated by certified BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) judges, from Mexico and also San Diego and Los Angeles. There will be rewards for winning beers from each category and also people will be able to vote for their favorite and obtain a "People's Choice Award".

No festival would be complete without entertainment, so this year, the festival will have bands like MoskTryo, Jazzztafunk, Tato Ortega, Kar Accidents, Los Activistas del Amor, Botanika and Viceverza. It will also have a culinary section with the best representatives of Baja food and even a coffee bar. Tickets for the event are around $100 pesos before the event, or about $8 dollars, available at BC Gastrobar (Hotel Calafia and Justo Sierra) in Mexicali, or at the day of the event for $11 dollars.
