Zonkeys stage 4th quarter comeback against Caballeros

Luis Ramirez scores seven 3-pointers to lead Tijuana's epic comeback

TIJUANA, BC.- Tijuana Zonkeys staged a fourth quarter comeback against Culiacan Caballeros to keep their 5-game winning streak alive in the Cibacopa.

Luis "El Chupa" Ramirez scored seven 3-pointers throughout the match to help Tijuana stay relevant as Culiacan controlled the nail-biting encounter in the first three quarters.

Ramirez was the best scorer of the night for Zonkeys with 21 points, followed with 20 by Omar Quintero. For the visitors Benjamin Pucket got 29 units and Rene Rougeau 28.

The Zonkeys started out the game scoring a couple of buckets from outside the arc but their early domination soon turned sour, with the Caballeros being ahead in the scoreboard by 5 points in the end of the first, and of the half.

Things went from bad to worse for the home team, starting out the final quarter with a nine-point deficit. However, after Marcus Morrison scored an alley-hoop from a Quintero assist and Ramirez scored his sixth three of the night, Trayvon tied it up at 86-86 with an easy layup.

Morrison then sunk a 3 of his own to put the home team ahead in the score for the first time since the opening couple of minutes and even though Caballeros answered with an outside bucket of their own, "El Chupa" found his seventh triple to give Zonkeys the partial victory.

From that point on, with just a few seconds left on the clock, the visitors were unable to draw blood and resorted to fouling the home side on multiple occasions. The final score was 94-91 in favor of the hosts after scoring vital points from the line.

The two-game series will close on Saturday night at 7p.m. at the Auditorio Municipal in Tijuana.
