The Hottest Startups in TJ

TIJUANA.- A new co-working space has opened in TJ. This project has been creating a lot of hype and expectation since it started reanimating the second floor of Tijuana's Old Touristic Station, located at Avenida Revolucion in Downtown Tijuana.

This past May 2nd HUB STN, Tijuana's first binational co-working space, hosted its kickoff party with an Entrepreneur Binational Meetup, where 10 projects with binational impact participated in a Pitch Fire type dynamic in which each one had a minute to present their organization. After that, a networking session took place, in which the presenters and the attendees had the opportunity to get to know each other and talk about the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem, among other topics.

One of the main objectives of HUB STN is to host this kind of events that create a sense of community and enable people from the ecosystem to meet and start building a strong network of contacts.

But what about the startups HUB STN is currently hosting? All of them are headed towards the same direction, generating high impact on both sides of the border. The following startups are the ones that have been participating and excelling in acceleration programs and events in the US:

NewHaus: an online collecting web platform, pitched at the V2 competition in USD this past April 2nd, alongside US projects, and won $30,000 in consulting services.

Matchap: a peer-to-peer betting app, won the prize for the best pitch at the Manos Accelerator closing event at UCSD, on April 19th.

Ahorro Libre: a web based Community Lending Circle, won a spot at the Plug and Play Accelerator Program in Silicon Valley and a $25,000 cash investment.

Clustter: a workspace collaboration platform, invited to the Collision Conference in Las Vegas taking place on May 13th and 14th.

Young entrepreneurs, many of them born in San Diego but raised in Tijuana, are spearheading these startups. They are taking advantage of living just across the border from the recently named "top city for launching startups in the US", and have been working nonstop envisioning Tijuana as one of the most successful and influential startup communities in Latin America. These young entrepreneurs are as well the first ones to start their ventures in two countries at the same time and have proven to be competitive in both sides of the border.

Tijuana is proving to be one of the most high impact and innovative cities to build start up communities, as well as for integrating one of the strongest entrepreneurial ecosystems in the Americas.
