1st MBA Entrepreneurship Symposium

"Challenges and Achievements in New Ventures Creation"

In order to encourage entrepreneurship in our region, this past 24 and 25 May, CETYS held the first Entrepreneurship Symposium: Challenges and Achievements in New Ventures Creation, with the participation of regional and international speakers, most notably Dr. Alex DeNoble, Dr. Ethne Swartz, Prof. Burke Lisa Murphy, among others.

The inauguration took place under a short speech by the rector of the CETYS system, Fernando Leon Garcia. "The dynamics in the Cali-Baja region are unique, both bilaterally and globally. The competitiveness that the movement between the U.S. and Mexico offers greatly enhances the region. We want citizens to contribute with the development of their cities, and the new standard requires that we engage professionals that seek entrepreneurship meaning, that they want to do things with quality", he said.

The first lecture entitled "The Evolution of Entrepreneurship: Changes and Future Trends" was given by Dr. Alex DeNoble of San Diego State University. "Today's a good time to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurial capabilities we now have were not even dreamed of in the times of past business generations. These capabilities are available to people around the world, since they are no longer exclusive to people living in first world countries", he said.

"In order to succeed as an entrepreneur, one has to develop a range of skills. One must recognize and evaluate opportunities, convey a compelling vision, develop a tendency to creative problem solving, to know how to use resources, mitigate and manage risk, to know how to plan when there is no history, to innovate (ie, develop ideas that work), build and manage social networks, acquire the ability to hold the attention of consumers, develop a tendency towards adaptation and to seek to implement everything newto the approach that one develops", said DeNoble.
