In order to boost Baja California´s touristic potential, important agreements were reached within the framework of the working visit through the entity conducted by the Secretary of Federal Tourism, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, in which issues such as boosting health and cruise tourism, and infrastructure projects, where addressed, as well as the signing of an agreement against human trafficking in this sector.
Boost of Health Tourism
Health Tourism is a sector in which the entity represents a national lead, being the first state in the country with a Department of Health Tourism.It is worthy of note that a public policy that allows for the systematic promotion of this sector will be issued in the short term.
The official emphasized that Health Tourism in Baja California leaves an annual economic impact of around 500 million dollars.The search for any kind of medical or health treatment is the second cause of traveling to Baja California between international tourists, getting visited every year by more than 1.2 million people due to this concept.
"Based on all this, we ask the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico (SECTUR for its acronym in Spanish) to include Health Tourism in the product lines that the Tourism Board of Mexico (CPTM) manages, to allocate resources for the promotion of the activity, through campaigns designed to encourage foreign tourists to visit Mexico for medical and wellness purposes",he explains.
The head of SECTUR adds that the request to define Baja California as the headquarters of the National Committee of Health Tourism, based on the importance that the state represents for the activity, as well as its proximity to suppliers and potential visitors to the United States, was also made.
