International Media Talking About Tijuana's Dancing Cop

An example of dedication

TIJUANA.-Just a week ago, an online video of a traffic cop in Tijuana became a viral sensation.

The city and international outlets alike were surprised by a man that shows his love for his job by dancing to the rhythm of Michael Jackson's famous song "Billy Jean" on one of the most popular streets in the city.

His fame has crossed borders, and international news sites like RT News in Russia, and the UK's Daily Mail have run with the story of Jose Ruben Echeverria Garibay, who at 61 years of age has decided to make people's time spent in traffic a little bit more enjoyable, and who is trying to make people happier.

In various interviews, Jose Ruben talks about he has always loved to dance and it is important for him to help not only drivers but pedestrians as well to be patient as they wait for their turn to cross the street. Connecting his phone to a speaker, and donning white gloves, Jose Ruben busts out moves of the famous singer - including the famous moonwalk - paying tribute to the King of Pop.

The video has given him international fame, with the "Scissor Roundabout" in the background, a city icon that is meant to signify the union of cultures, while he directs traffic next to Tijuana's Cultural Center (CECUT). Some have seen him on other streets in the city, like the General Hospital and have taken pictures with him in light of his new found fame. Some even wish that the red lights lasted just a little bit longer to enjoy the show some more, while some pedestrians stop to dance with him.

Jose Ruben has become a beloved character in the city, and an example of dedication and love for his job.
